Tuross Head is a seaside village on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia. This quiet seaside community is located on a headland that juts out into the Tasman Sea with Coila Lake to the north and Tuross Lake and Tuross River to the south making the headland virtually surrounded by water and joined to the mainland by a thin isthmus. A lovely way to experience the beauty of the lakes and ocean is to cycle the Tuross Head Foreshore Ride. It is a shared off-road pathway with stunning views. Opposite our home is One Tree Point lookout. This is a good place for a picnic and to spot migrating whales between May-June and then again September -November and dolphins are regular visitors to the area. Just a stroll down the road is the War Memorial Gardens at Plantation Point with a stunning view. If you prefer sport and adventure Kayaking is wonderful on Tuross Lake and the connecting Tuross River with many places to paddle including to Cambathin Island and Deuaumba Island. You can kayak on Coila Lake with a circumnavigation covering 18km. Golfers can have fun at Tuross Head Country Club with fantastic views on the nine-hole course with double tees. Short drives see other adventures. Just 15minutes drive south of Tuross Head, via the dairy farming village of Bodalla, is Eurobodalla National Park and Potato Point, where experienced snorkellers can explore waters teeming with marine life. Alternatively a 30 minutes drive to Narooma can mean a visit to a boardwalk watching string rays and local seals. You can also catch a boat from Narooma to Montague Island to visit the lighthouse and penguins or stop and snorkel with sea lions on an arranged tour.
With two lakes in Tuross Head the ocean seafood is plentiful so fishing is popular, as is boating. Enjoy seafood and good coffee at Tuross Boatshed, which has a lovely deck looking over the water. The Pickled Octopus Seafood Cafe also offers great waterfront dining serving delicious Thai fare and stop off for a drink at One Tree Inn.
