House in Halmstad, Sweden
Our house was built in 1923 and is located less than 1 km from the citycenter. The house is 90 square meters with one bedroom for adults (one king size bed) and two for children (with normal beds). We also have an extra bed and a big inflatable mattress. There is a kitchen and two small bathrooms with showers. Ouside is a small nice garden large terrace where you can barbecue and relax in the sun. The house is sheltered in the middle of a block so we hear almost no traffic.
The house was totaly renovated in 2019 so the 1920:s charm is gone, but the indoor climate is much better and everything is new. There is a 1 Gb wireless internet connection and TV with cromecast, a new gaming computer and a PS 4. For those with more literary interest there a lot of books (mostly about history in English). So there is things to do in the house if it’s a rainy day. We like our house a lot, though it is a bit special. It is very square and almost all the windows are on the same side. The photo of the house is taken from the "good" side

Our Neighbourhood
Nearest Airport: Copenhagen - 139 km (2 h 16 min by train)
Halmstad is a medium-sized town (about 66 000 inhabitants) located on the Swedish west coast, about 108 km north of Copenhagen, and 130 km south of Gothenburg. There are trains every hour between Copenhagen (Kastrup airport) and Gothenburg. For Swedes, the city is most famous for its beaches and is a “summer city”. The beaches are great but you should have some luck with the weather to be able to use them for swimming, the Swedish summers are not to be trusted. Halmstad is also known for its many golf courses. Since Halmstad is a tourist town, there are more (and better) restaurants than you might expect. The city centre features all the services one can imagine, including a beautiful new library, tourist office, museum, etc..
Besides bathing and golf we believe that our home would serve well as a startingpoint for people who are interested in nature and/or fishing. Only a few kilometers east of the city there is the southern highlands vast forests which does not end until it reaches the Baltic sea. In 20 minutes you can travel from the windblown beaches to the quiet lakes in the forest. For those who want to fish for salmon, there are within a radius of 32 km 5 streams to choose from. But it is also cheap to fish for pike, walleye and perch in the inland. Fishing in the sea is free and occasionally trout fishing is good. For those who do not fish ornithology, berry- and mushroom picking, canoeing or just long walks are recommended. There’s a lot of bicycle paths in and around Halmstad and we have 5 bicycles which can be used to explore the surroundings.
We think that Halmstad is a quite busy town in the summer. But when we come home from a visit in Berlin or Budapest it feels like the tempo I Halmstad is very slow and one wonder where all the people is. We assume that is one of the reasons people want to exchange with us. And so far, all have been very satisfied. If one want a higher tempo there is a train every 30 min to Gothenburg and every hour to our favourite city Copenhagen.

About Our Family
Our family consists of Carl Persson (archaeologist) and Birgitta Eliasson (a teacher) and our children Nils (18 years) and Frank (20 years). Nils is allergic to everything and Frank used to prefer a pretty structured life, so our joint trips used to be quite short. In 2012, however, we were in Berlin and it went well. In 2013 we joined Intervac and since that time we have made 11 exchanges and many other trips to cities in Europe.
Much has happened since 2012 and Frank and Nils are now true Europeans. They do not want any beach-holydays, they prefer European big cities. Carl would like to go to the Alps in the summer (or to Vienna every year) and Birgitta likes the food in France. Where we will end up in 2018 is unknown ? With Intervac one never knows…… which is part of the fun.Since we unfortunately are allergic to cats and dogs we cant exchange with families with those kind of animals.
Lifestyle
There is no meaning to deny that we are a family of nerds. We are interested in architecture, art and history but also going to the beach and eating ice-cream. We like Intervac for several reasons. From a practical perspective it is good to have a kitchen with all appliances for cooking allergy friendly food. More importantly though, we really liked to explore another country by living in it. Finally, the idea of exchange is just too good to not apply.
